Exfoliating with this natural vanilla lime body scrub is a great way to look after our skin during the colder months, where it has a tendency to get dull & dry looking. Dry air, indoor heaters & less moisturizing all leave our skin more prone to losing its glow and instead becoming dry. However, making your own exfoliating scrubs is an easy, economical & healthy way to nourish your skin back to a healthy glow, while at the same time stimulating circulation.
Made with all natural, clean ingredients, this vanilla lime scrub helps remove dead skin cells and leaves your skin looking healthier & more radiant while also enabling it to better absorb the moisturizers you apply afterwards.
Why Epsom salt is beneficial…
I love using Epson salt for my body scrubs & baths due to the vast amount of health benefits. It is not an actual salt but a natural mineral compound of magnesium & sulfate. While magnesium is known to ease stress, reduce inflammation & improve muscle & nerve function, sulfates help flush toxins, ease headaches & improve the body’s absorption of nutrients. Epsom salt also help heal cuts, relieve pain, ease muscle strain, all while relaxing the nervous system. Aside from Epsom salt, this scrub is full of coconut oil, which have amazing moisturizing effects.
Vanilla Lime Body Scrub
- 1 cup (240 ml) Epsom salt
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) extra virgin coconut oil
- 15 drops vanilla essential oil
- 10 drops lemon essential oil
- zest from 1 lime
Combine all ingredients well in a bowl & store in an air tight glass jar, such as a Mason or Spice Jar, to best preserve the oil.
Scoop up a decent amount with a spoon or dry hand and massage the scrub into the skin with circular motions. Wash with warm water & apply a big handful natural oil (olive, coconut or almond are among my favorites) while the skin is still damp. The combination of the scrub & the oil afterwards will leave your skin feeling amazing, soft & deeply moisturized.
