Homemade Natural Cleaning Sprays

Making my own homemade natural cleaning sprays have become a bit of a favorite thing for me, and I especially love experimenting with new essential oils to make my cleaning products smell great, which is something I do appreciate. These cleaning sprays are environmentally friendly & so clean you could eat them without needing to worry. Having an 8 month old son, who chews on everything from his hands & feet to my dinner table, I love knowing exactly what are in the cleaning sprays I use several times every day… and it means that he’s not munching on various toxins & chemicals from harsh commercial cleaning products.

All Purpose Surface Cleaner

I use this for table tops, kitchen counters, chairs, toys & spot cleaning the floor. The Dr. Bronner’s soap in here is a plant-based soap made from organic oils + essential oils and is so clean you can use it as toothpaste & mouthwash as well!

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) Dr. Bronners castile classic soap
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water (distilled or filtered)
  • 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 10 drops grapefruit essential oil
  • 5-7 drops tea tree oil

Antibacterial Cleaning Spray

I use this spay all over the kitchen & bathroom for serious cleaning. The acid in the vinegar is a well known cleaner that effectively kills most bacteria, germs & mold. Additionally, the essential oils add to the effectiveness & help mask the smell from the vinegar (DO NOT use on marble).

  • 1 cup (240 ml) vinegar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) water (distilled or filtered)
  • 15 drops tea tree oil
  • 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 10 drops lemon essential oil

The five best essential oils for cleaning

Essential oils are much more than just strong smelling plant oils. While each of the essential oil have different properties, many of them are naturally antiseptic, antibacterial, antimicrobial & antifungal, which makes them effective & safe additions to household cleaners.

  • Grapefruit Oil – has a nice fresh scent & is a natural antiseptic & disinfectant
  • Tea Tree Oil – has potent antiseptic, antimicrobial, antibacterial & antifungal properties
  • Eucalyptus Oil – a natural antiseptic, antiviral & antibacterial
  • Lemon – helps brighten stains and is a natural antimicrobial & antiseptic
  • Peppermint – a potent antiseptic and smells nice & clean

You can find essential oils at your local health food shop or whole foods market or you can buy online by visiting Essential Oils or Rocky Mountain Oils. Both these sites have a good selection of 100% pure essential oils.
