Healthy Sea Salt Chocolate

I am all over that this healthy sea salt chocolate at the moment…  Aside from being really quick to make, it is dairy-free & made with all plant-based ingredients. It is also very high in antioxidants and a good alternative to many other sweets that have little to no nutritional value.


The primary ingredient is raw unsweetened cocoa powder. Cocoa is a very nutrient dense food, and besides being rich in many essential nutrients it also supports the health of our heart, bones & immune system. It is particularly high in flavenoids, which are plant-based substances that function as effective antioxidants. According to a recent study from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the flavenoids in cocoa help relax the muscles in blood vessels and improve blood flow, which in turn helps lower blood pressure. They also protect against cell damage by destroying free radicals, which is why cocoa is often referred to as an anti-ageing food.

Besides flavenoids, this chocolate is also a good source of many B vitamins, zinc & magnesium, all of which support the production of energy. The coconut oil gives it a smooth creamy texture with a hint of coconut flavor, and serves as a nutritious substitute for the cocoa butter used in many conventional chocolate bars. Lastly, coconut oil is also known to enhance the body’s nutrient absorption by slowing digestion.

I usually have a stash in my freezer for when the urge to something sweet kicks in. I find that a few small pieces is enough to curb my cravings as they are very rich in flavor. This has been my preferred treat while I’ve been losing my baby weight & I hope you all like it.

Healthy Sea Salt Chocolate

  • 1/4 cup (4 tbsp) raw unsweetened cacao powder
  • 2 1/2 tbsp organic cold-pressed extra virgin coconut oil (preferably soft, not completely melted)
  • 2 tsp raw honey, agave or 4 drops stevia (100% pure)
  • pinch sea salt (I like to sprinkle this on top, but you can mix itin if you prefer)
  • 1 tsp vanilla powder or extract

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix with a spoon until mixture is completely smooth. Spread mixture onto parchment paper, drizzle a little sea salt on top & freeze for 10 mins.

I also like making little chocolate pieces with nuts, dried fruit or fresh cherries or strawberries. Simply form small chocolate rounds with a spoon, and add toppings and freeze. NOTE – best served straight out of the freezer.
