Beach Hair In A Bottle

I love the beachy hair look and have for years used “Surf Spray” by Bumble & Bumble. While I absolutely love this product, I recently tried making my own beach hair spray and have since been amazed by how well it works and just how much cheaper it is! beach hair 4 There are many different recipes for homemade beach sprays and after trying a few I have  absolutely fallen in love with this formula, which is a simple combination of water, Epsom salts, sea salt, aloe vera & coconut oil. It is not heavy or greasy but leaves a perfect subtle beach wave look – especially in longer hair. Better yet, unlike commercial varieties it contains no nasty ingredients and is completely healthy and nourishing for both hair and scalp. To best suit your own hair type you may want to play with the quantity of salt to give you the best results. More salt will add stiffness while less will give you a more subtle look. You can also add some scent using essential oils (I like adding a few drops of rose or vanilla oil), but this is completely optional.

Beach Hair In A Bottle

  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3 tbsp epsom salts
  • 1-2 tsp sea salt (if you want extra stiffness add an extra tsp)
  • 1 tsp aloe vera gel
  • 1/4 tsp coconut or almond oil
  • 1 tsp vodka or other alcohol (preservative)
  • a few drops essential oil for scent (optional)

Boil water and let it cool a little until it is warm but not too hot to touch. Using a spray bottle, combine all the ingredients into the bottle and secure the bottle lid. Shake the bottle for a minute or two until all the salt is completely dissolved. I used this spray bottle from the online packaging wholesaler Ampulla, but you can any glass or plastic bottle with a spray top and alter the quantity to suit the size of your bottle. Store at room temperature for up to 4 months. Images via Pinterest (pic #1 / pic #2)

    Thanks hon x

not at all! It’s the gel you use for sun burn, you can get it at most health food stores and many pharmacies too! Good luck x
